Tumultuous Times

6.7.2020

This has been a tumultuous week.

The images on television and in our communities showing different types of social discourse can elicit an emotional response.

The events that have unfolded across this country and the world will impact each of us differently. Your reaction will be based on your race, ethnicity, developmental stage, life experience and current emotional state.

Life is not static and change can stretch our physical and emotional capacity (as if we need to be reminded of this as we are still dealing with the pandemic).

This is a time when our comfort zones are being challenged.

These historic times call on us to reflect, be open to alternative views and decide on what course of action aligns with our values and supports the rights of others.

Here are some quotes that may help in your own reflection.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

-Martin Luther King

“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.” The Dalai Lama

“I raise up my voice-not so I can shout but so that those without a voice can be heard...we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” Malala Yousafzai

It is no use saying 'we are doing our best'. You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary"

- Winston Churchill

A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.” Nelson Mandela

Moving through this together. Stay Safe.
